Since this is supposed to be a blog mainly about knitting, I thought I add some photos of other finished projects. This is also a continuation keeping a promise.
About 6 years ago I knit a Christening gown for my second granddaughter. The pattern is from a Dale of Norway in the book Dalegarn #142.

I cast on the weekend of November 6, 2005 and completed the knitting during the last week of January 2006. This was knit using many skeins of Dalegarn Baby Ull and size 1 – 2.25mm circular needles.

DS was honored with the job of Godfather for his niece. The Christening was in early February, the Baby Ull was a nice choice to keep baby Claire warm and comfy.

DD was happy with the outfit for her 2nd daughter. Anna, her first daughter wore the Christening gown that DD wore when she was Christened. The 1st Christening dress was made by DD’s grandmother. I washed and put the dress away waiting for a granddaughter. The dress was passed from first (only) daughter to first daughter. We decided we needed a special |
dress for the 2nd grandchild to pass down through her family.

I think this fit the criteria. |

I just installed the Word Press app on my iPhone. I’m testing it out to see if it will facilitate blogging while on the road. So far, it’s a breeze.

I promised someone near and dear to me that I would post some pictures of my major knitting project of this year. So DS, here goes.
I do a good bit of knitting in my spare time. We have a Christmas Grab bag within the family and you can make or purchase the gift. We draw the names on Christmas Eve for the next Christmas so you know who your grab bag recipient will be a year in advance. It gives you a good bit of time to think about your gift. This year my grab bag recipient was my niece Grace. She likes things with a bit of bling, likes deep pinks, and likes to dress up. I knit her the Maple Tree Shawl by Just Our Yarn. This was a great knit but it took me a while to complete. I started it on December 26, 2010 and completed it on September 4, 2011. I travel a good bit for work and most of the time this was not a good selection for “airplane knitting”. I could just imagine hitting some turbulence and the container of beads going everywhere.
The pictures below are 1. A picture of the finished shawl before gifting, 2. A close-up of the boarder of the shawl, and 3. a close-up of the body of the shawl.

This was a lot of fun to knit and Gracie seemed really like it!
Success!

I thought I’d try a quick post using Windows Live Writer instead of posting through Word Press. Let’s see if this actually works.
Tonight’s agenda is to make sure the basement family room is ready for some new carpeting in the morning. Such excitement! The “man cave” is nearly done. DH is pretty happy with it. I have to agree, it’s looking pretty good compared to what it looked like before all of the remodeling.
Update, I just checked the post. Yep, it works great!

I went out to dinner this evening with a coworker and this is what we saw

Off the coast of Cape Cod
We drove to Cape Cod after work and had dinner on Cape Cod at a little diner in Falmouth, MA. Yum, lobster rolls! .. and I’m not telling you how big they were.
Note: this is actually an old post that I found in my drafts. I never published it until last night. Go figure…

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything to my blog. I thought I just might give it a try again. It may be the new laptop I purchased this week that is making me think about blogging. I was using a 7 year old Dell Latitude laptop until this week and decided that it has seen enough of life. Even though it was “state of the art” when I purchased the latitude, technology has left it in it’s wake. The new laptop reminds me of getting a new car. They’re all shinny and pristine, nice and fast, and no nicks (stone chips?) in the screen/windshield. I’ve had good luck with Dell products and purchased a Dell Inspiron this time around. I decided I don’t haul my personal laptop around enough to need the durability of the Lattitude.
I’ve still been knitting. DD and I are making the girlies new sweater coats for the fall. We are making Secret Garden From The Children’s Collection by Alice and Jade Starmore. We’re each using Beaverslide Dry Goods 90% Beaverslide fine wool/10% Kid Mohair 3 ply worsted weight yarn in Natural Jersey Cream. The yarn is a dream to work with and the pattern is great! It’s a really fun knit; not too boring and not so busy that you can’t enjoy a movie while knitting. I’m anxious to see the sweaters done.

On my way home from work this week I stopped at Leagal Seafoods in the B concourse in Boston’s Logan airport. This is what I brought home for tonight’s dinner. They were delicious!
Legal Seafoods packs the live lobsters along with an ice packin a box lined with styrofoam and a plastic bag. I carried them onto the plane an put them in the overhead for safe travel. When I got home I put the box in the refrigerator till today. They kept overnight quite well. When we unpacked them for dinner tonight, one of them started crawling across the kitchen counter. DH put a large pot of water on to boil
When the water came to a full boil DH put the lobsters into the pot.

Cooking lobsters
We never cooked live lobsters before and I was suprised how quickly they turned red.
They cooked for 10 minutes after the water began to boil again.

Dinner
A great dinner was enjoyed by all!
There are some great benefits to traveling for work!

I went out after work with a co-worker for dinner and this is what we saw

Cape Cod
We were at one of the many bays and evidently facing west. I don’t think you can watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean, at least not from Massachusetts. The air was quite chilly and Jean said the water was even colder (she put her hand in) . We drove around Cape Cod for a while and stopped at a little diner in Falmouth, MA for dinner. Yum, lobster rolls.

While traveling to Springfield, MO from Pittsburgh on Monday I had a layover in Atlanta. I was flying Delta Airlines and Atlanta is their busiest hub. I was supposed to have an hour from arrival to departure but the flight was 45 minutes late leaving PIT and I ended up having 15 minutes from arrival to take off, of course my next flight was on time and I wasn’t lucky enough for it to be delayed too. My arriving flight arrived at gate B8 and I had to get to gate C52; keep in mind that the airlines close the flights 10 minutes before departure which meant I actually had 5 minutes to get from one gate to another. I ran from one end of the B concourse to the middle (gate 8 to gate 28), went down the very long and very slow escalator, waited for the tram from concourse to concourse, finally got on the tram, arrived at the C gates, up a very long and also very slow escalator, and ran to the end of the C concourse (from gate 30 to gate 52). It wasn’t fun but I hustled and luckily made the flight just as they were about to close it. I was glad that I checked my luggage and used my wheeled computer bag so that I could run quickly and not have to drag a 30 lb suitcase. I should have carried on, unluckily my luggage didn’t move as quickly as I did and missed the flight.
When I got to the Springfield airport I discovered my bag was not on the baggage carousel, bummer. I put in a claim for the bag and the kind agent told me that my bag was still in Atlanta. There was another flight arriving from Atlanta later in the evening and my bag would probably be on it and they would try to deliver my bag to my hotel in the evening. Note: I also overheard another agent tell someone that they don’t deliver delayed luggage after dark: I received a claim number and could check on their website to see the status of my bag. The website said my bag had been found and would be delivered between 11:00 PM and 11:00 AM. I didn’t believe I’d see my bag that night and had to be at work early in the morning. Hmmm, no change of clothes, tooth brush, make up, or anything else in my suitcase before the sun would come up. What to do? No problem, the hotel is across the street from a mall and also a strip mall with an Ann Taylor’s Loft. I ended up spending the evening finding enough stuff to get through the night and for work the next day. I found a really cute red sweater at Macy’s that will be great to wear over the holidays.
My bag arrived at my hotel in the morning after I left for work. Good thing I went shopping!

Springfield, Mo
Posted from Springfield, Missouri. The weather here is not any warmer than in Pennsylvania.

Today when I left the house it was snowing. Now I’m in Whittier, CA (a suburb of LA) and it’s quite warm out. I sat out on the patio outside my hotel room without a coat or shoes and was quite comfy.
I also learned something on my journey: If you’re flying into LAX and have drive 30 miles, most of it on the 105 and the 605, don’t schedule your flight at a time that puts you in the rental car at 6:00 pm. LA traffic is crazy at rush hour. It reminded me of a trip I made to LA with DD many years ago. We were in LA for a wedding and had some time for sight seeing. We tried out a few LA freeways at rush hour on a Friday evening.
In response to a comment on this morning’s post, I was talking about the registers not resisters. Spell check didn’t even catch it. And, the floor is now done! Yee Ha!
And to my other comment, yep we did have dinner in the Perrytowne Tavern Saturday evening.
